The three looks are made with L’Oreal Professionnel’s Luocolor product, which unfortunately is not available in the Philippines because it is designed for light blonde hair. But nevertheless, I want to share these with you as you may still get ideas from them for your next visit to the salon

And as before, here are the fashion brands’ interpretation of the trend, and why L’Oréal Professionnel right on target with its collection!

And so, without further ado, here are the Luocolor “Adventurer” looks!

“Kalahari”

This is an asymmetric African braid close to the head, starting from the left-hand side and finishing on the shoulder. This plaited style for long hair is suitable for all hair types if the hair is first blow-dried to straighten it.

The color effect (with Luocolor 5, 5.3 and 5.45) is applied to the crown of the head and the lengths so that all of the different shades of brown and sienna are seen in the braid.

Our adventuress has retained a love of layering and bright colors from her adventures in Zanzibar and her encounters with the Massai. She is now heading towards the Kalahari desert, the last stage in her world tour. She notes down every impression, the tiny little details about her vast everyday experience, in her travel journal. After all, what else is most important?

“Alashan”

This “wild cut” look is obtained by a cut with layering all along the lengths that is styled with the fingers. It is suitable for straight or wavy hair. As for short cuts, it is useful to use a relaxing cream during blow-drying for wavy hair. This step makes it easier to straighten the hair and will protect it from heat.

The colors (with Luocolor6.04 and 7.3) are positioned on the roots and lightened on the layered ends to create a contrast between the lengths and the ends. At nightfall, the light of the desert gives them golden brown glints; flames flickering around her angelic face.

With a multi-colored bag as her only luggage but a heart full of adventure, our model is getting ready to hit the road again for Alashanin the Gobi desert. She wears a zippered sleeveless jumpsuit made of black cotton rib that gives her a dynamic look and backpacker style.

“Sahara”

Short back and sides with different lengths on the top: Leslie Winner (a famous androgynous model from the 80s) is the inspiration for our heroine of the Sahara.  The styling is deliberately tousled to give this style a light and artless feel. This cut is made for straight hair but can also be created on slightly wavy hair. In this case, the hair needs to be blow-dried to straighten it!  For fine hair, use a light, non-sticky mousse to give more bounce to the hair.

The colors (with Luocolor 10, 10.03 and Platinium) are applied with “darker roots and lighter ends” to obtain a more natural and contrasting effect. This sunshine blond glows with the shades of hot sand.

Like the heroine of the film “The Sheltering Sky”, our model wears white clothes, the color of purity and redemption. She accessorises her outfit with a light silk scarf, jewellery and a leather belt. Her only make-up is a line of dark chocolate kohl pencil to enhance her eyes.

For this year, the collection revolves around the theme: “Travel Journal”.  From cruise collections of luxury fashion brands to everyone’s fantasy vacation of flying to destinations like Paris or Maldives, I think its about time our wanderlust expressed itself in fashion.

There are two parts to this collection. The first are 3 looks are made with Majirel hair color, entitled “Travelers”. The second are 3 more looks created with the hair coloring product Luocolor, entitled “Adventurers”.

Looks for the sophisticated traveler, not the campy tourist

Here are the trends from the runway that inspired the first part of this collection:

Brimmed hat and trench coats are classic wardrobes of travelers

“Darjeeling”

Inspired by Jaclyn Smith, who played the role of Kelly Garrett in Charlie’s Angels, this cut has slight layering on the lengths and a wave is created using tongs to add suppleness and glamour. This long cut is perfectly suited to wavy hair. It can also be obtained on straight or even very straight hair by creating large curls using wide curling tongs or heated rollers. It is recommended to use a structuring mousse for fine hair to create volume, suppleness and shine.

Our traveler is draped in the silky fabric of a raspberry red wrap dress. She has accessorized it with charm-style tassels. Her make-up is in tones of chocolate and red; this style makes her hair glow at the very heart of Darjeeling.

“Havana”

Our muse sports a layered bob with a wave-shaped movement flowing over her forehead; the asymmetry on one side adds a touch of sophistication and dynamism. This cut is preferably suited to supple, straight and even unruly hair! It may be necessary to use mousse  on fine hair when blow-drying to obtain more body and hold.

The color effect, in a copper and mahogany range (with Majirel 5.45, 6.35 and 7.35), is positioned primarily on the sweep of hair at the front. Fine tawny-colored highlights have been added to accentuate and sculpt the wave.

Passing through Havana, our muse has adopted the colors of local elegance – black and white –not forgetting a Panama hat, both to protect herself from the sun and get herself noticed! Wanting to be noticed is natural, but sometimes a smoldering gaze can help things along: for her make-up, our muse has chosen a shaded palette of sepia and brick brown tones to bring out the green of her eyes.

“Casablanca”

Our heroine’s look and cut are inspired by Farrah Fawcett. The cut is layered at the sides to obtain the “Farrah Flick”. The movement created on blow-drying with a large round brush gives this hairstyle a lightweight, feminine feel! This cut is perfect for straight, flowing hair. It is, however, possible to create it on wavy or even curly hair. In this case, you will need to relax the waves when blow-drying or use X-Tenso rebonding/relaxing service.

Of course this look is not really ideal for our hair. But I still placed it here for your inspiration and entertainment

The hair color (with Majirel 9.34, 9.03 and Platinium) and the hairstyle lead to a color effect that is particularly concentrated at the front, due to the positioning of the light shade near the face. This gives optimal radiance and the face appears framed by a golden light.

For this trip to Casablanca, our heroine wears a loose-fitting shirt dress with short rolled-up sleeves in comfortable taupe-colored suede-like fabric. The addition of accessories gives an on-trend touch: a broad buckled belt and a few ethnic bracelets. The make-up favors a healthy glow created with terracotta underscored by a light ‘smoky gray’ accent on the eyes.

These looks are more laid-back, relaxed, romantic, but still rebellious in its own way. So here are three more looks that you might be interesting for you.

“Joan”, “Janis”, “Joni”

The first look is inspired by the 1960′s activist folk-singer Joan Baez. Very easy to maintain with a cute mid-length bob cut that frames the face. To get the style, apply mousse all over and blow-dry with a large brush to get the volume.

For the color, go with Majirel 6.23 (Gold iridescent dark blond) as your base color and Majirel 5.3 (Golden light brown) as your highlights.

As always, be careful with very light hair color. It might not fit if you’re dark-skinned.

The next two looks aren’t really recommended for the Philippines. For one, they require very light Caucasian hair, which means if you want to achieve the same effect on our dark Asian hair, you’ll have to pre-lighten or bleach your black hair first. So these looks weren’t launched here, but for the sake of completeness, let me share them with you.

This one is inspired by the care-free red-headed rebel, Janis Joplin. To get the soft wild texture, the hair needs to be separated into sections and worked against the grain with straighteners. The hair is then styled upside down with a hairspray, and finally blow-dried and styled using your fingers.

The color is made with a product range called Luocolor, which isn’t available locally as it is designed for the Western market.

Love the red shade though!

And last but not the least, the last look comes from the singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell (who wrote the song “Big Yellow Taxi” which Counting Crows and Vanessa Carlton made a cover of). Blond color aside, I think the hairstyle is something that can be adapted locally. Its a nice romantic and nomadic alternative look to the usual long black sleek hair.

To get this look, ask your stylist for an asymmetric fringe on your bangs. The ends of the hair’s lengths have also been thinned out to create texture. To style, simply apply mousse and brush your hair for volume.

To get this color for our Asian hair, you’ll have to really bleach it first until it becomes pale yellow.

What I want to share with you today is about hair color collections. Every year, L’Oréal Professionnel comes out with two collections: Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter (if you would like see everything that L’Oréal has come out with since 2006, check this facebook page here).

For this year’s F/W, the collection is entitled “Rock n’ Folk” which presents hair styles and colors inspired by famous (and infamous) music icons. For this post, I’ll focus on the Rock looks first.

“Billie”, “Amy” and “Debbie”

The first look is inspired by the controversial rock, soul, and R&B singer Amy Winehouse. Ever since Karl Lagerfeld made her his muse, fashion brands from all over began incorporating Amy’s style into their catalogues. The hair cut requires slight layering along the lengths to keep it light and lively.

To style, use mousse as your base styling product. Then place the the front sections and sides of the hair behind the ear. The big volume at the back has been back-combed and held in place with two pins. And finally, at the nape of the neck, let a few strands of hair flow free on your shoulders. Oh, and don’t forget the cat’s eye make-up.

For the color, go with Majirel 5.56 (light extra mahogany red brown) as your base, and then highlight it with Majirel 5.61 (extra irridiscent red light brown) and Majirel Mix Violet.

This color is ideal for hair with dark bases, but it can always be adapted by your hairdresser if you have lighter hair

The second look comes from the American guitarist and singer, Brian Setzer, who is an icon of the Rockabilly genre (think Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley). The cut is a exagerratedly short at the nape of the neck and the sides, but still thick and at the top. Stylishly mess it up and hold it in place with a strong hairspray.

For the color, use Majibrown 7.02 (lavender brown) as your base. You’ll then need to pre-lighten the parts you want highlighted until it is pale yellow, and then color those strands with Diacolor Richesse 8.13 (Ash Beige).

You can also change it up by going for a light base, and dark low-lights

Finally, the last look is inspired by Debbie Harry, or better known as “Blondie” the pop-rock singer in 1970. The hair is cut short at the nape of the neck to form a bob. Next, apply mousse as your styling base and use velcro rollers on the crown to achieve the volume. Finally the front section has been parted and traced to the side to create movement.

For the color, go with Majilift 12.3 (golden blonde) for the base and then highlight sections with Majirel 7.43 (extra copper mahogany blonde).

As this color is very light, it is more advisable on people with fair skin.

And there you have it! Three new looks you can go for if you want to try something new and be more daring! Play with your hair and have fun! Just make sure to communicate with your hairdresser really well first to make sure everything is done to your specifications. I’ll post part 2 within the week!
